My name is Sveinbjörn Grétarsson, and I’m the person behind flugbeitt.is. I offer sharpening services alongside my main job, working from a 50-square-meter garage at my home in Kjalarnes.

After years of sharpening for myself and friends—investing heavily in equipment and spending countless hours learning everything I could about sharpening—I decided to offer this service to the public and launched this website at the beginning of 2022.

I take great pride in doing quality work and use specialized tools depending on what’s being sharpened.

KNIVES: 2.500 - 4.000 isk.

I sharpen all types of knives so they become sharper than when new. I also repair damaged knives and reshape edges depending on the knife’s intended use.

My main tool is the Tormek T-8 water-cooled sharpening system, which prevents overheating during sharpening, preserving the steel’s temper and ensuring longer edge retention.

The edge angle is crucial for achieving optimal sharpness and durability, depending on the task.
It’s also vital to properly remove the burr after sharpening. I do this using various types of leather and polishing compounds.
Additionally, I use a powerful microscope to inspect the edge in fine detail.
No knife leaves my workshop unless it’s in perfect condition—and truly flugbeitt (razor-sharp).

I treat every knife with the same care, regardless of its price.
Sharpening one knife takes 15–20 minutes, and I charge ISK 2,000–4,000 depending on the knife.

I sharpen all types of scissors—for hairdressers, dog groomers, fashion designers, and tailors.
I use a specialized machine: “Twice As Sharp – Ookami Gold” by Wolff Industries (USA), which removes as little steel as possible and finishes with a polished edge.
All scissors are cleaned, oiled, and tension-adjusted. I also stock various replacement parts.

Prices range from ISK 2,000 to 5,000 depending on the type and model.
